The origin story of Original Glue, often known as GG4 or Gorilla Glue, is a tale of persistence and eventual triumph through meticulous breeding. The strain’s distinctive appearance and potent effects are the result of extensive backcrossing, a process that wasn’t without its challenges.

In 2009, breeder Josey Whales joined forces with two fellow growers, initiating a series of experiments that involved elite clones like Sour Dubb, Chem’s Sister, and Chocolate Diesel. Despite initial setbacks, including the loss of an entire crop, Josey didn’t give up. Unwanted seeds from the unsuccessful project were handed over to a friend who preserved them. In a subsequent attempt, these once-discarded seeds were brought to life.

The perseverance paid off, giving rise to three usable females: GG1, GG2, and the now-famous GG4. While GG1 and GG2 remain closely guarded secrets, GG4 emerged as the most promising for commercial release. The moment GG4 hit the market, its popularity soared, with growers across the United States clamoring for authentic clones at a premium. Fortunately, seed banks have since developed feminized seed versions, democratizing the cultivation of the potent Gorilla Glue lineage in grow tents worldwide. The journey from setbacks to success underscores the resilience and appeal of Original Glue in the cannabis community.
